The Neuroscience of Personal Change
A Three Step Process for Working with Anxiety & Depression and Promoting Emotional Well-being
   Watch Promo

  • Alexis struggled with a lack of self-confidence. It made her overly cautious and inefficient at work.
  • Jim was stuck in another bout of depression.
  • Matt had an anger problem. It was was causing problems in his marriage.
  • Barb’s anxiety was returning. She was afraid it would make her life miserable again.

These people all have something in common: an overactive amygdala.

When a person has an overly active amygdala( a part of the brain that helps regulate emotions), it often results in problematic emotional patterns. Author and Psychologist Dr. Timothy Stokes has spent over 30 years working as clinical psychologist and has developed a three step process for working with what he calls "amygdala scripts".

In this course Dr. Stokes combines neuroscience and psychology to help identify the emotional history and patterns that activate these amygdala scripts. His unique three step process can effectively help reduce or eliminate chronic difficult emotional beliefs.

In this course you will learn:

  • What is happening in your brain when you encounter chronic emotional patterns
  • What causes these patterns
  • A practical three step process that will help you work with almost any emotional pattern
  • Powerful mindfulness techniques for increased well-being

“Dr. Stokes has done a masterful job of fusing new neurobiological findings with mainstay psychotherapy practices to create a powerful and easily understood therapeutic procedure."

—Jerry Joseph, Ph.D., president and CEO, Family Behavioral Resources

Tim Stokes, PhD, has been doing psychotherapy and providing clinical consultations to other therapists for more than thirty years. He is also the owner and clinical director of Corporate Psychological Services Inc., a company that has provided psychological services to thousands of people since its inception in 1985. His interest in psychological writing was prompted in 1990 when he began a five-year stint as the editor-in-chief of the Naropa Journal of Contemplative Psychotherapy. His book “What Freud Didn’t Know: A Three-step Practice for Emotional Well-Being through Neuroscience and Psychology” by Rutgers University Press (January 2010) explains in everyday language how clinical and neurobiological research combine to produce surprisingly effective and simple strategies to master most kinds of psychological difficulties.
